Networks of services and smart experimental programmes for a new generation of tourism, based on in situ knowledge and enjoyment of cultural resources, promoting a low-cost technological upgrade of territorial museums and ecomuseums, incorporating the integrations of knowledge of cities and the territory, made possible by the collection of diffuse knowledge and collective memories, opening residences and private estates to visits, events or internships.

New models of shared hospitality

From couchsurfing to portals for making one’s home or part of it available to travellers and tourists, even the world of hospitality is changing face and becoming increasingly social. In fact, the number of tourists who choose to live like a local is growing, preferring (sometimes) cheaper solutions to hotel rooms that are certainly more welcoming because they allow them to live in a real home. The opportunities are diverse: one can book (or make available) a free bed, while also offering the guest one’s own point of view on the city, accompanying him/her to events or simply having dinner together. By signing up on couchsurfing.com, one becomes part of a community of travellers, each with his or her own profile in which one can indicate hobbies, passions, countries visited, what one can offer (number of beds, situation, languages spoken, etc.) or what one is looking for, and choose on the basis of the profile where to go/who to host.

Another type is the airbnb offer in which one can make one’s own home available for any number of nights (from 1 to entire weeks): the types of accommodation are very varied but almost all are distinguished by a particular taste in furnishings and costs that are not too high. By becoming a member of homexchange, one can instead exchange one’s own home with that of other members around the world.

In all of these portals, the feedback function available to assess both the degree of hospitality and the reliability of the host is of fundamental importance.

Encyclopaedia of cinema in Piedmont

The Encyclopaedia of Cinema in Piedmont is the continuation of the research and cultural promotion work that the National Cinema Museum Association (in collaboration with the DAMS of the University of Turin) has been conducting since 2000 on the subject of relations between Turin and Piedmont and the cinema. The Encyclopaedia of Cinema in Piedmont is a website that can be consulted free of charge and is dedicated to the cataloguing of all the cinema and television activity carried out in Turin and Piedmont from 1900 to the present day. It is structured as an archive of interconnected cards that allow for different levels of reading and research: ‘Film cards’, ‘People cards’ and ‘Places cards’.

Public Art and Monuments Project – P.A.Pu.M.

P.A.Pu.M. is the internet landing place of the Public Art and Monuments Project, born in 2006 to take a census of the city’s monumental and artistic heritage, through an in-depth work of reconnaissance, research, monitoring and communication. The City of Turin has set up a permanent documentation centre on historical monuments and contemporary works of art in public spaces. For each work, information is processed and organised in a coherent and cohesive system, to be made available as materials and tools for knowledge, action and planning. The site allows you to consult the inventory of the works and the biographies of the authors, as well as all the project work sheets. Each sheet also offers a photo gallery and a link to a city map centred on the work and navigable.

Open villas

Ville Aperte is an event organised every year by the Province of Monza that includes guided tours with recommended itineraries to almost 60 historical-architectural sites scattered throughout the 33 municipalities involved, and numerous collateral events. Contributing to the excellence of the event is the significant recognition of the Presidency of the Republic, which awarded ‘Ville Aperte in Brianza’ the Head of State Representation Prize. The Ville Aperte initiative is also repeated in other parts of Italy, such as Friuli Venezia Giulia (on the first of May) and Veneto with the ‘Iniziative Palladiane’ event. A nationwide initiative of this kind is the FAI Spring Open Day when open properties are located throughout Italy.
