Networks and specific experiences of local authorities and private associations that activate services for the management of public green areas or of environmental and recreational interest, experimenting public-private management methods of common assets, also using the compensatory or equalisation procedures of urban management.

Our secret garden

The project was developed by Studio 999 as part of the renovation of a 19th-century building in the San Salvario district. The intervention proposes a new way of living that includes the sharing, by those who work and live in the building, of common spaces, including the rooftop vegetable garden created in 2010. The benefits of the intervention are considerable, from energy savings to the consumption of fresh vegetables, to the participation of the inhabitants in a particularly dense urban context full of critical issues in terms of liveability. The desirable spin-off of the ‘pilot’ project is that of its dissemination in the neighbourhood, where there are many similar situations of courtyards little or partially lived in by the inhabitants that could be transformed into cultivated green spaces.

Jardins Citoyens

The urban community of Grand Lyon identifies multiple forms of city gardens in addition to the traditional family gardens, including pedagogical, social, community, solidarity gardens. The different gardens envisage different types of management and uses (meeting places, for sports and leisure, for rehabilitation). The project envisages a consultation phase between public and private partners to define work programmes for the creation and management of the gardens.
