The Social Housing Foundation was established in 2004 by the Cariplo Foundation, with the participation and support of the Region and ANCI Lombardia. The foundation’s sole purpose is social solidarity and, with the aim of contributing to solving the housing problem by paying attention to situations of economic and social disadvantage, it promotes, plans and manages all the actions that are concretely possible, useful for supporting socially oriented housing initiatives. The foundation carries out private social housing, defined as a set of actions, initiatives and tools – implemented either directly or by facilitating third party initiatives – aimed at facilitating access for disadvantaged people to a decent housing and social context that allows them to improve and strengthen their condition. The foundation provides the tools for social housing, addressing the main topics of private social housing (the management, design and construction of the community of future tenants) and dossiers that explore specific topics presented through the description and discussion of case studies.

ViaPadova36

The ViaPadova36 project was born as a natural evolution of Maisondumonde36 conceived in 2011 by Fondazione Cariplo. ViaPadova36 has recovered and valorised an inhabited period building by building 41 dwellings in subsidised rental. The aim was to meet the demand of those who are unable to access the free market and to respond to the growing need for people with temporary low-cost housing needs, and by offering better housing to those who already lived in the building and constituted the historical memory of the place. The project offers an economically and socially sustainable management model capable of offering not only quality housing, but also recreational, social and cultural activities aimed at fostering aggregation among residents and revitalising the neighbourhood. It promotes a new model of social entrepreneurship, encouraging integrated, coordinated and shared management of the entire building through the involvement of different actors.

Realised in collaboration with Fondazione Housing Sociale and the Fondo Immobiliare di Lombardia – Comparto Uno, managed by Polaris Real Estate Sgr Spa. The project was also financed by the Lombardy Region for the construction of 8 dwellings for immigrant families (AbitAzioni Project), and another 7 dwellings for families and persons in difficulty and social vulnerability (Housing and Social Integration Project).
