In these days when grocery shopping is a bittersweet pleasure that smells of lost freedom, we adapt to what we can find in the nearest supermarket or in the virtual trolleys of online shopping. But ‘as soon as we can go out…’ we want gourmet shopping for an ancient and mouth-watering recipe: A BONÈT!

That fantastic typically Piedmontese spoon dessert – which is mortally offended at being called pudding – whose recipe belongs to the category of ‘household secrets’ that every mother, grandmother, aunt jealously guards. The interpretation of the name is still uncertain, but it certainly seems to derive from bonèt, which in Piedmontese vocabulary indicates a rounded hat. In a physical sense according to some: it refers to the shape of the copper mould in which it was prepared. Metaphorical according to others: served at the end of a meal as a ‘hat’ to what was eaten.

From this daydream comes the idea of a game in the form of a treasure hunt, where the MAP is that of AtlasFor, the POINTS are the ingredients of the ancient recipe, the PRIZE is a trunk of works of art dedicated to the Landscape. Although the most precious TREASURE is the virtual journey to (re)discover the centre of Turin, in the AtlasFor way, #beyondwhatyousee.

THE REAL RECIPE

It seems that the ancestor of Bonèt was born in the Langhe Monferrato around the 13th century, with a simpler recipe than the modern one, especially without cocoa. This white ‘Monferrato-style’ version is a cake made with milk, eggs, macaroons and sugar. Around the 18th century, with the evolution of tastes and the arrival of new products from overseas, the recipe for bonèt was enriched in Turin with rum and cocoa, and the version codified with the PAT (Traditional Food Product) label took shape.

GREAT-GRANDMOTHER’S TICKET

My great-grandmother would go and choose her ingredients carefully, each in a specific place, in the shops of old Turin and in the market stalls where the freshest produce arrived.

In her old recipe book I found a half note. The names of the places where he bought the ingredients for Bonèt were left in the missing half of the note….

Can you help me complete it?

Unable to roam the streets, we search on a map. The map of our sweet treasure is AtlasFor, Atlas of Cultural Heritage and Active Landscape. By exploring it, we can reconstruct our great-grandmother’s route, discover many things about Turin and also understand how to participate in enriching it, which is perhaps an even more fun game.

HOW TO PLAY – RULES

Every day on the social channels FACEBOOK and INSTAGRAM you will find ADDITIONS to the PLACES where great-grandma used to buy different ingredients.
Each ADDITION reveals a PLACE to search for on ATLASFOR. Open the map on the Routes of the centre and search among the icons that populate the atlas: clicking on each one will open a card with a description of the place, divided into CHAPTERS, each with different NEWS to open, read, observe…
The INDEX helps you find the place and also tells you, between the lines, what is the curious NEWS that you have to find in the card of the PLACE you have guessed (watch out for the keywords highlighted in bold!).
When you think you have found the right NEWS, indicated by the clue, download the accompanying photo and keep it.
When you have collected all the ingredients, write to game@landscapefor.eu attaching the downloaded photos and indicating where you found them.
The FIRST THREE to hand in the correct photos and clues win BONÈT PRIZES.
BUT IT DOESN’T END THERE! Do you have any special content related to any of the places you visited for the Bonét recipe? Photos, plans, documents, videos, audio… Send them along with the game solution: the THREE who send in the most interesting contributions win the CHAPEAU PRIZE!
THE FANTASTIC PRIZES UP FOR GRABS!

READY? WE’RE GOING!

To recap… Look closely at the text and image of each clue.

Then enter AtlasFor and explore the map. Among the many icons you see, look for the place where your great-grandmother bought the INGREDIENTS to make Bonèt.

Click on the icon and on DISCOVER, read the card, explore the various chapters and find the clue suggested by the clue. Can’t find it? Try other icons, places and chapters!

When you think you have found the right news item DOWNLOAD THE PHOTO of the news item (save it, photograph it, whatever suits you best) and keep it! You will have to send it to game@landscapefor.eu together with the others (6 in total) relating to the other ingredients.

FIRST CLUE – The best milk is under the arcades: among the historic cafés and pastry shops, frequented over the centuries by politicians and men of letters, there was also a ‘marghé’.

NEXT CLUE TOMORROW!

In the meantime, start thinking if you have any special contents about that place (photos, videos, postcards, documents) and keep them to enter for the extra Chapeau prize!

SECOND CLUE – Farmhouse eggs can be found at the old Herb Market. ‘Make sure they’re fresh, mind you!’. Otherwise, the great-grandmother was capable of bankrupting the trader… and once upon a time, the punishment was exemplary.

THIRD CLUE – The art of biscuits is a Turin tradition, but the great-grandmother used to get them in a grotesque-looking bar that no longer exists, except in Primo Levi’s memories. You will find the tale in the oldest part of the ‘capital’ street.

NEXT CLUE TOMORROW!

In the meantime, start thinking about whether you have any special content about that place (photos, videos, postcards, documents) and keep them to enter for the extra Chapeau prize!

FOURTH CLUE – Your great-grandmother also used it in her tomato sauce, to correct its acidity. Next to the Antica Tettoia dell’Orologio you will find both sugar and… the king of peeled tomatoes!

TOMORROW THE PENULTIMATE CLUE!

In the meantime, start thinking if you have any special content about that place (photos, videos, postcards, documents) and keep it to enter for the extra Chapeau prize!

FIFTH CLUE – Go there where the wine market used to be. Under the French it became ‘Place de la Liberté’ and many lost their heads, certainly not because they were drunk!

pastedGraphic.png

SIXTH AND LAST INDEED – In the working-class suburb north-west of the city centre, the great-grandmother went straight to Turin’s Willy Wonka factory, because she only trusted the two old men.

You know the instructions by now. When you have collected the 6 solution PICTURES, send them to game@landscapefor.eu together with the LIST OF PLACES FROM WHERE YOU HAVE TAKEN THEM.

The first three win BONÈT PRIZES!

If you add some of your own special content about the places you encountered (photos, videos, postcards, documents) you also enter for the extra CHAPEAU prize!
