Carbonia: Landscape Machine

[PdP 2010-2011 – Winning Project].

Complex programme for the valorisation of a modern landscape (a foundation town) and mining equipment, in a landscape of importance, awarded in Europe in 2011. The site is a Unesco Geopark, an area of interest of the Regional Plan, etc. The Prize is awarded for the complete articulation of the programme, which has included the integration of operational tools such as the new land use plan, the projects for the tourist enhancement of the mine and the redevelopment of public spaces and services of the original project of the town (1936), the system of relations that allows the intervention to be proposed as a local development engine for the entire area and a model for the other mining areas of the island.

Port of Acciaroli in Cilento

Modernisation of the port as a service for a sustainable territorial and tourism development programme in the Pollica area. A project financed by European funds, commissioned by Mayor Vassallo, who was killed by the Mafia, which qualifies one of the 10 most beautiful seaside resorts in Italy (class.Legambiente) with a functional intervention of minimal impact.

Fantiano Quarries in Grottaglie

Recovery, qualification and management of cultural activities in a tuff quarry abandoned since the 1970s and managed as a regional park. The intervention has become the driving factor of an integrated valorisation project, which has also involved the historic centre, the Ceramics Quarter and Grottaglie’s rock habitats. The park is home to numerous activities and offers a system of multi-purpose spaces, with a playbill included in the regional theatre circuits.

Gran Paradiso Park’s programme to promote car-free use at high altitudes. The national park, together with the regional provinces and local authorities concerned, has activated a summer management programme full of events and attractions for the Colle del Nivolet, a hiking destination of excellence, while organising access with vehicular parking in the valley and connecting shuttles.

Villa Gregoriana Park in Tivoli

Recovery and management of the Villa Gregoriana Park in Tivoli, an exceptional place of nature and culture. The nineteenth-century park integrates archaeological and natural sites of great fascination, but it deteriorated and remained in semi-neglect until 2005. The FAI managed significant public-private funds for the securing, restoration and maintenance, as well as the complex management of its use.

The Great Cretto of Gibellina

Programme for the rehabilitation of the works of memory and reconstruction of Gibellina post-earthquake 1968. The programme includes the restoration of the Grande Cretto, a very important work of land-art by Burri in memory of Gibellina’s old centre, which was destroyed, and interventions on the public spaces of Gibellina nuova, built after the event with interventions by important architects but never participated in and experienced by the population. The interventions were necessary because of the abandonment and lack of maintenance, or the functional and identity inefficiency of the newly built architecture.

Monti Lepini Ring

Integrated tourism development programme based on Ring 111, a route of quiet lanes for the enhancement of nature, archaeology and local productions in the Frosinone area. Promoted by a partnership between the region, provinces and municipalities to support and guide the process of tourist economic development in the area.

Paleobotanical Park of Anglona

Enhancement of environmental assets of excellence (petrified forest) with the formation of a palaeobotanical park and its services, between 4 municipalities in the Sassarese area. The municipalities of Martis, Bulzi, Laerru and Perfugas united promote the tourist enhancement of the area with a diffuse museum system managed by a cultural services company.

Manifattura dei Marinati in Comacchio

Recovery of early 20th century equipment for marinating eels, a typical product of the Po Delta. The project, organised by the Park and the Municipality of Comacchio, in addition to the Eel Museum and the Park service centre, offers a historical and cultural tour of the town and the promotion of the local gastronomic tradition (Slow Food presidium).

Landscape Plan of Sardinia

The part referring to the coast of the Regional Landscape Plan, one of the first in Italy, of 2006, with a prevailing mission of safeguarding free areas and regulating already built-up parts. The coastal territory is divided into 27 areas with specific quality objectives, rules and characteristics for building intervention, recovery and redevelopment. The ‘Coastal Conservancy’ is a management service to support the policies of the PPR. NB: The 2012 revision of the PPR reduced the Plan’s constraints and the scope of action of the management tools.
